Transit NXT
Short cuts – Nº 16 : Import options - importing specific paragraph styles
The import option that we will see today is very useful for project managers. Imagine you've received a huge file from a client, but are asked to translate only some parts of it. You might consider the option of copying the part to be translated to another file and later copying back the translation into the original file which might be risky or not possible at all for advanced file formats like Adobe FrameMaker, for example. The new Service Pack brings an excellent solution for this! You as a project manager can import the entire file in Transit, you just have to tell Transit what needs to be translated and Transit will take care of the rest for you.
Short cuts – Nº 15 : New options for converting language pairs to the standard TMX file format
In one of the tooltips, we learnt how to convert language pairs into the standard TMX format. The new Service Pack includes the following additional useful features for this conversion process. These new features give you added productivity, more efficiency and added quality control:
New Pretranslation options with Service Pack 7
Transit NXT offers a wide range of pretranslation options. The new Service Pack 7 brings two additional pretranslation options in order to achieve more efficiency and accuracy during pretranslation. As a project manager, you can optimize on the reference material and use the segments that are absolutely required for pretranslation, irrespective of the language direction of the language pairs added as reference material.
Transit NXT meets machine translation - nº 1
"CAT meets MT" and the ingenious ways of Transit NXT to make that encounter as beneficial as possible for all users and players is too wide a field than to be dealt with in one single article. We therefore decided to split the topic into various posts. Here comes the first one.
Short cuts – Nº 14 : Generating statistics for multilingual projects
Generating statistics for multilingual projects is a tiresome exercise if you have to generate them for each language separately. Just imagine the time you can save if you generate the statistics for a project with 20 target languages all in one go. With Transit NXT SP7, you can now save the statistics for all target languages of a multilingual project in one single file or separate files in Excel, HTML or other formats provided by Transit NXT.
Aligning files in Transit NXT
If you have files that were translated without a CAT tool and would like to use them as reference material, Transit NXT offers you a very powerful and easy to use alignment tool to convert them into language pairs which can then be used as reference material for future translation projects. The resulting language pairs can also be converted into the standard TMX format.
Short cuts – Nº 13 : Dynamic preview of MS Office files
Semantic and structural context are of vital importance for the correct translation of segments. For this reason, translators often switch back and fourth between the original file and the CAT tool in order to better understand the context in which a segment appears.
What happens in Böblingen . . .
...changes the face of the translation world!
At least this might be the conclusion the reader could arrive at, having read the following article. The piece is an authorized reprint of an identically named article about Transit NXT that appeared as Premium Content in Issue 13-10-228 of the Tool Box Newsletter, a computer newsletter for translation professionals.
Short cuts – Nº 12 : New options for organizing reference material
Service pack 7 brings along with it a very useful and practical option for organizing reference material. Project managers can now benefit from this option by specifying how the language pairs should be copied to the selected reference folder from Transit itself. Let's see how this works.
Working with subtitles in Transit NXT
With Service Pack 7, Transit NXT offers the option to translate subtitles for films, corporate videos and presentations. Traditionally subtitling has fallen outside of the scope of translation memory packages, perhaps as it was thought to be too creative a process to benefit from the features such software offers. However, with online video becoming an increasingly important part of the business marketing mix, many companies are looking to maintain consistency of terminology and style right across their published output, as well as wanting to make the most of their previously translated material. Well, now they can. And any Transit user can now produce professional translated subtitles with no previous subtitling experience.
